How to Kill Head Lice Using Natural Homemade Remedies

 

When using any lice treatments, one must make sure that the condition is due to lice infestation. Otherwise, misdiagnosis may result and will lead to one developing a serious condition other than lice infestation itself.

As such, when applying lice treatments, one must seek the help of a doctor to certify that a particular condition is indeed due to the presence of lice. The following are some of the common lice treatments available:

Most natural home remedies for get rid from head lice involve putting something on your child's scalp and hair to 'smother' the head lice. Popular choices include real mayonnaise, olive oil, and Vaseline. These are usually left on overnight, often under a shower cap, and then washed out the next day. They can be very messy though and have not really been proven to work.

The idea behind using mayonnaise, petroleum jelly, food-grade oil, or margarine is that these thick and heavy substances cover the louse's air holes, effectively smothering them. Although this technique may make it hard for lice to breathe, it likely won't kill them

One of the ugliest experiences that any person can have when still young is having lice infestation. Such infestation is very common among children and can cause the formation of blisters and dry skin on the scalp that renders the health of the scalp very poor. Moreover, lice can transfer from one person to another, which often requires people to shave their heads in order to be free.

On the other hand, aside from shaving, there are other lice treatments that one can try in order to be freed from this problem.

There are various natural products that one can try for lice treatments. Such natural products include coconut, aniseed, neem, and tea tree oil. What makes these natural products nice in lice treatments is that these do not cause harmful effects on the scalp even with frequent use.

  •  Apply tea tree oil and keep it for 2-3 hours. Rinse your hair after 2-3 hours.
  • Try applying vinegar for head lice. Applying white vinegar on your scalp, and keep it for 2-3 hours, it helps to get rid of lice and nits. You can also apply vinegar and keep it overnight, and rinse it in the morning.  It will kill lice in 2 days.
  • Blowing hot air into the head through a blower is one of the popular lice treatments that one can do at home. Hot air can kill both the lice and the eggs, thus making this procedure truly effective with 100 percent mortality of eggs and a near hundred percent mortality in head lice and hatched eggs.  (I would think you could use a vacuum at the same time you were blowing hot air in--one reader said there is a new treatment that vacuums the lice out--might try the home version first!
  •  Apply coconut oil to your head after shampoo and condition.
  • Add ten to fifteen drops of tea tree oil into shampoo bottle and use it daily.
  • Rub Listerine mouth wash on your head. This will kill all the lice.
  • Massage your head with mayonnaise and comb it after 2 hours. This will kill all the lice and their eggs.
  • Apply a mixture of lemon and butter on your head, wait for 15 seconds and then rinse your head.
  • Take about eight to ten almonds and grind them to make a paste. For this, add two to three teaspoon of lime juice. Application of this paste on the scalp will be beneficial for killing the lice. Keep this paste for about ½ hour and then rinse thoroughly.
  • Saturate the head with full strength using neem oil. Make sure that not even an inch of area is left without oil. Massage the oil well into the hair and scalp so that the neem oil gets absorbed within the scalp pores completely.
  • In order to avoid the leaking oil from head, make the person being treated, lie down on floor with the head placed on a large plastic bag so that it catches hold of the running oil. Now let the oil absorb within the scalp for about an hour and then shampoo it nicely afterwards.

This is an old Traditional home remedy help in treating head lice, not sure if you want to do this one.  

Pour lamp oil all over the head until your hair can't hold any more. Place any type of wrapping around your head, preferably not cloth. Wait for about 15-minutes and shake your head over a sink. Most of them will just fall out but comb your hair with a fine tooth comb and conditioner, because combing will be difficult, to get the rest out. 

Home remedy of head lice using Combing

Combing: a safe, non-toxic method of lice control--Combing is the oldest and safest method of lice control; nit combs have been found in Egyptian tombs. Combing is completely safe. When done properly, it takes time and requires patience on the part of parent and child. You can completely avoid insecticide shampoos/rinses if you comb the hair to remove lice and nits, but you must be diligent. Even if you use an insecticidal shampoo, combing is the only way to remove eggs/nits from the hair.
