Proven health claims to be outlawed throughout Europe
Posted February 2nd, 2012 by adminWe all know that prunes keep us ‘regular’, and it’s been scientifically established that glucosamine is good for joint pain and probiotics help with gut health – yet it will soon be illegal for manufacturers in Europe to say so.
The European Parliament will soon outlaw these claims, and around 2500 others. Once it becomes law next April, the new directive will prevent manufacturers of food and vitamin supplements from making health claims that everyone knows are true and have been supported by scientific studies.

Drug regulator to face fraud investigation
Posted November 8th, 2011 by adminEurope’s main drug licensing body, which is primarily funded by the pharmaceutical industry it is supposed to regulate, is facing a fraud investigation.
Officers from the European Anti-Fraud Office are investigating the European Medicines Agency’s role in the regulation of diabetes drug Mediator, which was withdrawn in 2009 after it had been associated with around 2,000 deaths. Concerns that the drug could cause fatal heart problems were first raised a decade earlier.
REVISED - NEWSLETTER; SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2011
Posted October 8th, 2011 by adminApologies for having to send this twice but it turns out that quite a few of the links didn't work, this is one of the reasons for the coming overhaul as the newsletter software tends to screw up the links when publishing (!?). Thanks to those of you that pointed this out. Allof them should work now...
Newsletter; September/October 2011
Posted October 8th, 2011 by adminWelcome to another of the occasional and admittedly sporadic Autonopedia newsletters.
Activity on adding more articles has also been slow of late, partly because of summer when it is less conducive to be sitting around indoors slaving over a computer keyboard (LOL!) and also due to an unfortunate health problem and hospital incarceration of your humble editor earlier this year. Now as the nights draw in and it gets colder outside, many more articles should be arriving on the site over the autumn and winter.

Posted September 22nd, 2011 by adminThe UK government has sanctioned a secret trial crop of genetically modified (GM) wheat next year.
The three-acre site, at the Rothamsted Research farm in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, will be protected by a high fence, and the police may also guard the area. Previous attempts to grow GM crops at the site have been attacked by protestors.
Local councils adding fluoride to water supply could face prosecution
Posted September 6th, 2011 by adminLocal authorities around the UK could face criminal prosecution if they fluoridate their water supply under new powers being discussed in Parliament.
The Health and Social Care Bill gives local authorities the right to fluoridate the public water supply in their region – but it appears to be a notional power as they will be contravening Department of Health guidelines if they do not comply.
It is being discussed today (Tuesday, September 6) and tomorrow in Parliament, and is expected to be passed into law unopposed.
